Dear all,

We are facing problem of growing plastic waste. We are able to see many adds / videos about plastic being dumped on roadside/ sea / river / etc. Our Prime Minister has also requested all of us to stop use of "Single use plastic".

As a teacher I would like to request all my students & teachers and friends to stop using "Use & throw pen".

They may be very cheap & easily available but generate big amount of plastic waste as there is no further use of it.

So "say no to Use & Throw Pen." If possible please use fountain pen / pen where ink or refill can be changed.

A small initiative from ourside will make considerable change for our present & future.

So, please join me in this movement of "Say no to Use & Throw Pen".

Teachers value gratitude from students as a form of recognition most: Survey

Teachers value gratitude from students as a form of recognition the most, more than salary increase and bonus and recognition from the management, says a recent survey conducted by Pearson. A large number of them also perceive the there is absence of platforms that recognize them in India.

The survey states that the majority of teachers feel that students adequately acknowledge them for success however; there is dominant belief among teachers that the level of gratitude has declined over the last 10 years and most of them believe that they are respected in the society.

As per the survey, teachers consider subject-level knowledge (91 per cent), innovation in teaching techniques (87 per cent) and professional skills (86 per cent) as the key parameters on which they should be recognized.

The teachers believe that declining student interest is a major challenge (72 per cent) facing them, more than parental guidance to students (59 per cent), or pay and recognition (56 per cent), teacher training opportunities (54 per cent), more than classroom resources and technology aids (51 per cent) and class size (49 per cent).

72 per cent of teachers (who participated in survey) believe that students adequately acknowledge them for success, with highest perceived gratitude in Southern India. However, 61 per cent perceive a marked decline in student gratitude over last 10 years – this decline is pronounced in the north vis-à-vis other regions.

“Teachers in metro cities perceive the least gratitude from students for success. Simultaneously, they experience the least decline in gratitude over the last decade,” says the survey.

The survey says that teachers in Karnataka (followed by Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh) are most satisfied with the gratitude they receive. While, 42 per cent of teachers in NCT of Delhi believe that students do not adequately acknowledge them for success.

“Further, NCT of Delhi and Chandigarh have the highest % of teachers who perceive a decline in gratitude from students,” it says.

School teachers perceive a higher level of gratitude from students vis-à-vis those at Higher Education institutions.

“At the school level, gratitude is significantly higher at both ends of spectrum i.e. primary (Grade I-V) and senior secondary (Grade XI-XII). In the higher education segment, teachers at undergraduate level perceive the highest gratitude from students and lowest decline in its expression over last 10 years,” it says.

79 per cent of teachers believe that there are either none or few recognition platforms in India.

“Inadequacy of platforms is most felt in the East (closely followed by North) and among teachers at Higher Education Institutions. Teachers overwhelmingly consider subject level expertise, innovative teaching practices and professional development as primary criteria for recognition,” it reports.

“Teachers in South region are the most professionally satisfied; those in the North least. While, teachers, overwhelmingly, feel that they are respected in the society and considered role models, there is relatively low satisfaction with the pay level and professional development opportunities,” it says.
